Who We Are
Our Mission
The Edmond Area Chamber of Commerce is the voice for business. We enhance economic opportunity and quality of life in Edmond.
With nearly 1,100 members, the Chamber is dedicated to creating a strong local economy, promoting the community, providing networking opportunities and business contacts and representing business interests to government. Our small business sector, with 50 or fewer employees, comprises the majority of our membership. The Chamber is governed by a Board of Directors selected from its member companies. The board directs the work of the many volunteers and their efforts. The Edmond Area Chamber staff supports the day-to-day operations. The four divisions of the Chamber are Member Services, Community and Economic Development, Governmental Relations, and Organizational Development. Each division has its own committees dedicated to carrying out the goals of the Business Plan.
Your Chamber
We represent 101 years of creating a strong local economy, promoting the community, providing networking opportunities and business contacts, and representing business interests to government.
Like the State of Oklahoma, our Chamber celebrated its centennial in 2007. That means for the past 100 years, the Edmond Area Chamber has worked hand-in-hand with this community as a force to effectively cultivate, promote and enhance economic growth. That is as true today as it has always been. We serve as a business advocate and strive to provide leadership to the Edmond community. And it is working – Edmond is cited again and again as one of the premier places to live and work – not only in Oklahoma but across the country.
This Chamber’s success is built upon the involvement of hundreds of volunteers. Guided by a Board of Directors, the Chamber each year undertakes an aggressive Business Plan designed to foster leadership and community growth, and to provide the highest-caliber services possible to our members.
While we certainly recognize limitations on time, we encourage your involvement in Chamber activities. In addition to our more than 60 annual events, we offer approximately 30 councils and committees on which you can serve. Our staff is happy to help you identify the activities and programs most suited to your needs and skills. Of course, even without direct involvement in our activities, your Chamber membership investment is at work each day, promoting your business.
Representing Business Interests to Government
Our professional staff is ready to assist you with questions about the community, and to provide assistance that will help your business succeed. Through synergies with the Edmond Economic Development Authority, Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the City of Edmond, the Chamber provides support to companies locating and expanding in Edmond. We advocate on behalf of the interests of business before local governments, at the state level in Oklahoma City and nationally in Washington, D.C. For many of our members, the Chamber is the only advocate and source of information regarding legislative activity at municipal, state and federal levels.
Promoting the Community
The Chamber is the first stop for newcomers and businesses looking for specific goods and services – and we do recommend our members! Our online Membership Directory receives approximately 7,700 hits per month. Member websites have a direct link from the Chamber’s site and can enhance their listing with pictures and descriptions of their products and services for a modest annual fee. We continue to look at ways to enhance our website and its value to our membership.
Our weekly e-news keeps you informed about current issues and Chamber opportunities. It also keeps you up-to-date on local businesses and Chamber activities, so it’s easy to get involved. The Chamber’s Ambassadors promote new and expanding businesses with ribbon cuttings, ground-breakings and other celebrations.
There are many sponsorship opportunities offered throughout the year that enable member sponsors to take advantage of Chamber promotion, yet also take time to showcase their places of business and services offered.
Providing Networking Opportunities and Business Contacts
Chamber membership provides the opportunity to network with the area’s most successful business people at Business After Hours, Morning Mingle, Membership Luncheons, Women’s Business Network, New Member Orientation, and other special events. Chamber members have access to information through seminars provided by the Women’s Business Network and the Small Business Council.
When you invest your membership dollars, you support a great organization. When you invest your time, you benefit your community and your business. Your investment in Chamber membership means you’re putting your support behind efforts to improve the area’s business climate, education, and quality of life.
We encourage you to make the most of your membership!
Chamber Commitment to Leadership Development
The future of our community depends on strong educational opportunities for our citizens, and articularly our youth. Your Chamber encourages excellence in teaching and learning through our support and promotion of the Edmond Public School system, private schools, and local institutions of higher learning including University of Central Oklahoma, Oklahoma Christian University, and Francis Tuttle Technology Center. Training for future community leaders is provided through our Leadership Edmond, and Youth Leadership Edmond programs.
Leadership Edmond, which has graduated 23 classes (Class XXIV is underway), educates local business owners, leaders and potential leaders about Edmond and local opportunities for leadership in our community. The Youth Leadership Edmond program, now in its eighth year, provides six months of leadership training for high school juniors, fostering community commitment and involvement at a young age.
